 Southern Ontario trail running

One of my many passions in life is trail running, I do it every spring till fall and as I get older I'm starting to think maybe I'm gonna start running some trail running marathons soon in the next few years, and I'm just gonna log it all here and maybe start a running club.

My plan is to run 4 km a day. In Two years I wanna join a marathon but not just any marathon the Barkley marathon. I've been watching videos online for years about this marathon there's something about it that's just so exciting. It's a loop race so it's five times around, for a total of 130 miles. The interesting part is every lap is unique because every lap will take place at a different time of day and going in a different direction. First two laps are clockwise the second two laps are counterclockwise and the fifth lap is runners choice, I want to run this race.

If anyone's interested in running and training in the spring let me know, let's go for a run!

Some of my favourite places to run

  • The Bruce Trail

  • Sleepy Hollow Woodland trails

  • Six tunnel to King

  • The Woodland loop

Creating healthy habits

They say it takes eight weeks to break a habit, so by proxy it should take eight weeks to build a habit.

If you're looking to add discipline and structure to your life, if you're starting to feel like life has become a little too chaotic in you looking for a means to simplify and narrow your vision and I recommend you trying this eight week habit building exercise and I promise at the end of the eight weeks once a new habit has formed you'll be in the right mindset to add something powerfully critical to your life like a new diet a new lifestyle or a new gym membership.

Positive habit building:

The next eight weeks to build structure into build routine we will be using a mild psychology experiment on ourselves where we rewire the brain and create new neural pathways with good habit.

Every night before bed take a few minutes to do 5 x 5 exercise, nothing too extensive nothing to exert of, the whole purpose of this is to just put your body in a constant routine for eight weeks. Remember it's more about the act than the actual exercise itself, remember we're just creating a habit, a routine. For 15 minutes grab a book, any book or instructional manual and read. See how many pages you can get through, and as you get through the eight weeks try and track to see if you can go from five pages to 10 pages to 15 pages in 15 minutes.

By the end of the eight weeks you should have fully rewired your brain a new neural pathway should be created and you should want, you should be inviting new healthy habits into your life. Those quick 5 x 5 exercises you were doing to get your body moving in those 15 minutes of reading should have exploded and erupted into a gym membership and your newfound ability to focus on some thing for more than 30 seconds. Plus not having the phone in your hand right before bed is a huge positive and will help you sleep better. I personally think adding these two things to your life can have a huge positive affect on your life and can change it for the better. In the beginning it might seem like a lot but by the end you will want more!

My habit forming routine:

5x5

  • 5- push-ups

  • 5- sit-ups

  • 5- burpee's

  • 5- squats

  • 5- Mountain climbers

15 minutes of reading:

One of my favourite books full of short stories is HP lovecraft's tales of horror. My version has 27 short stories quick easy reads. Quit being lazy, build better habits for yourself, trust me he will change your life in more ways than one.
